Welcome!

Dear Grades 4/5 Families,

Welcome to our classroom! We (Ms. Jenn and Ms. Tanya) are excited to be your guides on this learning adventure. Our classroom is full of exciting adventures and hands-on learning opportunities.

We (Ms. Jenn and Ms. Tanya) work together in a shared learning space in rooms 52 and 53. We share EVERYTHING (as Robert Munsch would say). We even share our students. This is our third year co-teaching and we have found our co-teaching arrangement to be supportive of meeting the learning needs of all our students.

In order to help you get to know us, we would like to share some information about us:

Ms. Jenn has been teaching at Bridlewood School for 8 years. She has taught kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 4. This is Ms. Jenn's 6th year in grade 4 and first year in grade 5. Outside of school, Ms. Jenn enjoys spending time with her family, doing art and being active in the outdoors.  She also rides her bike to get exercise.  Although she also enjoys reading she much prefers to write and draw. Did you know Ms. Jenn published a book? Ask her about it and maybe she will read it to the class.

This is Ms. Tanya's fourth year at Bridlewood; her fourth year teaching grade 4 and first year teaching grade 5. Ms. Tanya has been teaching 24 years and has taught grades 2, 4, 7, and 9. Ms. Tanya enjoys spending time with her family including her bearded dragon, and spins to stay healthy and fit.  She is a self-described book worm.

Rooms 52 and 53 have two student teachers this year. They are with us for the month of September, once a week from October to December, and again they are with us all of January until mid-February. Their names are Ms. Jasmine Fasoli and Ms. Emma Mackintosh. They are both looking forward to getting to know the students and their families and being a part of our learning journey.

We blog to share upcoming events and what we are learning about in the classroom. Please check the blog a couple of times of week so you know what is coming up. You can find our blog by using this direct link https://bwsgr4and5.blogspot.com/

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3rd. We will be anxiously awaiting your arrival at the compound doors in the morning. The day begins at 8:15am and finishes at 3:10pm. Parents can meet you at these doors at the end of the day as well.  For the first day of school, please remember to bring a pair of indoor shoes, a morning snack, and a lunch. As well, dress for the weather as we plan to be outside for both recess and lunch.

Last year, Bridlewood School continued their journey of empathy by reading the book, What do you do with a Chance? Students in all grades made connections and created a path that allowed them to explore how they might take a chance and what obstacles can make taking a chance challenging.  They also explored what success feels like when taking a chance. This year we begin by continuing our journey into Empathy and will be going on several field experiences to develop students understanding of community and how the simple action of saying something can create a change in the world.  These field experiences will be sequenced throughout the year and take us to a variety of places in and around Calgary.  We hope to continue to grow empathy and use our voice to say something and take action in our community. More information will be coming as these experiences come to life and are confirmed.

We are excited to get to know each of our families. If you have any questions, please email us directly or give us a call at the school.
