Money Challenge Problem-  Decimals

Today we started looking at decimals by considering money.  We talked about different ways to represent our coins or decimals.
I can identify a penny (no longer in use), a nickle, a dime, a quarter, a loonie and a toonie.
I can write the value of the coin in at least three different ways.
For example: A loonie
$1.00
100 cents
One dollar                                            The Money Challenge:
Image result for looney money    A family is trying to save money to go vacation.  They need               $1258.50. They decide to put $1.00 into savings in the first               week.  They save $2.00 in second week.  Now they have $3.00.        If in week 3 they save $3 and in week 4 they save $4.00.
How much will they have saved in one month (4weeks)?
How much will they have saved in 6 months (26 weeks)?
After 1 year (52 weeks) how much money will they have saved?

What would happen if instead of a dollar the family saved $0.50 at a time?  How much would they have saved after 4 weeks? 26 weeks? 52 weeks?
Or $0.25 each week cummulatively? How much would they have                                                          after 4 weeks? 26 weeks? 52 weeks?

The Writing Process

We continued to work on story writing.  We talked about the writing process.  The writing process has 5 stages:
1) Prewriting
2) Writing
3) Revising
4) Editing
5) Publishing

We are working decimals.  Practice tonight with this grid.  What decimals represent this picture?

Synonyms

What is a synonym?  We worked in a small group to figure out synonyms for the word 'said'.  How many can we get at home?  The most we could find at school was approximately 30.

Natalie has asked students in Ms. Tanya's group to practice their lines at home. If possible, someone at home will read the lines that their child doesn't have to memorize so students can practice only their lines. Students will not be using a script when they perform, so lines need to be memorized. Students each have a hard copy of the script in their backpacks. Here is a digital copy...just in case.
